In sailing, wind and water must be mastered at the same time; you can't have one without the other. We share this passion for wind and water with the sailors, in particular with the those of the ”King Class”, the Dragons. Hanseatic Lloyd has already become closely involved with this sport several times as the title sponsor of high-ranking regattas, such as for example the 75th Anniversary of the Dragon class in St. Tropez in 2004, the HLL Dragon World Championship in Neustadt/Holstein on the Baltic Sea in 2005 and since 2006 also in the Hanseatic Lloyd Dragon Grand Prix in Strande on Kiel Bay. This sponsoring is intended not only to support the Dragon sailors, but together with them also the World CHILDHOOD Foundation. This foundation set up by HM Queen Silvia of Sweden has an important objective: to help children in need.
You can find further comprehensive information about the Dragon class here or in a high-quality book that Hanseatic Lloyd has published.
Regatta sailing demands complex know-how, a team spirit and dependability, in other words values that you can only attain through constancy. That is what this sport has in common with the day-to-day work in the Hanseatic Lloyd Group. We at Hanseatic Lloyd promote the training of these skills in young people through our support of regatta sailing. After all we do not only need these values in our companies, they are also prerequisites for success in life.
Under this aspect, since 2007 we have been supporting two young, ambitious sailors in an Olympic boat class. Over and above the opportunity to do some serious sailing, the shipping company also offers them the prospect of a professional career within the group. Hanseatic Lloyd is the main sponsor of the HLL Star Boat team, which is made up of helmsman Robert Stanjek (27) with Mark Koy (34) as crew. In early summer of 2008, in the elimination competition s the two just failed to earn a ticket to represent Germany at the Olympic Games. And yet only a few weeks later (June 2008) Stanjek/Koy won the European Championship of the Star boats on Lake Balaton. An optimum start into the next Olympia campaign for the London games in 2012!
